Fracking Heads to New York to Explain Clean Air Benefits of Natural Gas

Presidential candidate’s virtual bus tour continues in New York, where natural gas use has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 42 percent

After her recent stop in Boston, Mass., presidential candidate Fracking’s “Powering the People” virtual bus tour arrived today in New York, N.Y., where natural gas is helping to improve air quality and public health.

Last month, the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) released a report showing the use of natural gas has helped reduced carbon dioxide emissions from New York power plants by 42 percent between 2000 and 2015. Other local air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide fell 79 and 97 percent, respectively, during that same period.

“The people of New York — and people all over this great nation — deserve to breathe cleaner air, and natural gas is helping to make that happen,” said Fracking. “I am happy to play a part in not only providing affordable and reliable energy, but also greatly improving the air quality across this state.”

According to the NYISO report, power projects using natural gas account for over half (57 percent) of New York’s electricity generating capacity. Additionally, 65 percent of proposed generation projects are expected to rely on natural gas.

Fracking could be risking arrest with today’s stop, however. Despite the state’s heavy reliance on natural gas, New York banned Fracking in 2015.

“While the Governor might not be my biggest fan, the environmental and health benefits provided by natural gas are worth celebrating. I look forward to continuing to play a vital role in enhancing New York’s public health and energy future,” said Fracking.

Following her visit to New York, Fracking is scheduled to stop in Lusby, Md., where a new $3.8 billion liquefied natural gas export facility is providing jobs and boosting the local economy.
